BIG OVATION; In his first Cubs game as a Bears quarterback, Caleb Williams is greeted with a standing ovation.

In his first Cubs game as a Bears quarterback, Caleb Williams is greeted with a standing ovation.

Caleb Williams attended his first Cubs game since the Chicago Bears selected him in the 2024 NFL Draft. The former USC standout was greeted warmly by some of his new teammates at Wrigley Field, where the Cubs were playing the division rival Milwaukee Brewers. Williams was in a suite with players like Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore, and Cole Kmet watching the game on a Saturday at the Friendly Confines.

Williams was doing the “Bear Claw” position when the cameras caught him, which the fan base is also adopting.

After one week of the draft, Williams and the other selected players—wide receiver Rome Odunze, the No. 9 overall pick who came right after him—are focusing on rookie mini camp, which takes place from May 10 to May 11. After that, Chicago will prepare for OTAs before opening training camp in late July.

Could Caleb Williams the Bears be on ‘Hard Knocks?’

Following Williams’ selection by the Bears with the first overall pick—which came from the Carolina Panthers as part of the trade last year—excitement in Chicago is still high. It also raises the question of whether the franchise for Hard Knocks may be chosen by the NFL. The Bears are one of three teams that might be asked to take part in the HBO documentary, after all.

Although he hasn’t heard anything about the show coming to Chicago, general manager Ryan Poles discussed that possibility earlier this week and stated the team would be prepared for whatever choice the league made.

“I’m not aware of this. In any case, that wouldn’t surprise me,” Poles stated on Tuesday on ESPN 1000 in Chicago’s The Waddle and Silvy Show. There are a few side issues that occur with supporting something. However, it’s one of those things where you simply have to adjust to whatever happens, as you learn in this league.

Let’s roll if it’s here. We’ll just keep going if it isn’t. However, we’ll see.

When Williams gets settled in, Bears supporters will, at the absolute least, be closely watching the offseason programs. It is hoped that he will finally develop into the franchise quarterback that they have been waiting for. There are many reasons for Chicago supporters to be optimistic that the team would eventually find success in the draft, including the addition of Allen and D’Andre Swift to an offensive core that already included Moore and Kmet.
