The Professional Footballers’ Association has declared its opposition to any legislation that would impose a rigid salary ceiling on Premier League players. A legal and economic analysis of “anchoring” is believed to have advanced to the final stages for top-tier teams, including Nottingham Forest. This move could potentially cap expenses like player wages, agent fees, and transfer amortisation costs at a multiple of central Premier League revenues going to the bottom club.

The goal of anchoring is to prevent the wealthiest clubs from controlling the league, and rules pertaining to this idea are now being drafted in anticipation of a second vote at the league’s annual meeting in June.
