BIG DOUBTFUL: Auston Matthews of the Leafs is questionable for……

Auston Matthews of the Leafs is questionable for Game 7.

Although forward Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs has not been officially declared, it seems likely that he will not play in Game 7 of the NHL Eastern Conference first-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins.

Boston will host the game on Saturday night.

Auston Matthews injury mystery deepens as Maple Leafs force Game 7

As stated on Saturday by The Athletic, Matthews took part in his team’s morning skate but was only on the ice for roughly fifteen minutes, during which time he “still looked limited physically.”

In the third period of Toronto’s 3-1 loss, Matthews did not skate on the ice despite trying to play through an unexplained sickness in the previous game. In that game, he apparently sustained an injury that was not disclosed.

Even while head coach Sheldon Keefe stated that Matthews was “progressing,” it appeared unlikely that his star player would be ready for Toronto to play in its third consecutive elimination round.

“As of right now, we’re proceeding as we’ve been,” Keefe stated.

When Toronto defeated the Maple Leafs 2-1 at home in Game 6, William Nylander’s two goals kept the Maple Leafs in the series.

All three of Matthews’ points in the series came from a goal and two assists in Toronto’s 3-2 victory in Game 2.

With a career-high 69 goals and 107 points in the 2023–24 campaign, Matthews, 26, led the NHL. The 2021–22 Hart Trophy winner has played in 562 games and has 649 points (368 goals, 281 assists) since the Maple Leafs selected him first overall in the 2016 draft.
