The Oregon Ducks begin the 2024 season on August 31 at home against Idaho. The Oregonian/OregonLive will count down the days with mini-profiles of important former and current Ducks, whose jersey numbers match to the number of days until kickoff. Today’s No. 74: offensive linemen Kyle Long and Tom Drougas.
Long, the son of pro football Hall of Famer Howie Long, spent one remarkable season at Oregon after transferring from Saddleback College. Kyle Long’s brother, Chris Long, spent 11 seasons in the NFL. Kyle Long played baseball at Florida State and was chosen by the Chicago White Sox in 2008.
Long helped the 2012 Ducks average 315 rushing yards and 49.6 points per game as they went 12-1 and defeated Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl. Long played in the Ducks’ 62-51 victory over USC in 2012, when they gained 730 yards, 426 of which came on the ground.
The Chicago Bears selected Long in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Long played for the Bears for seven years before retiring due to injury. He was named to three Pro Bowl rosters.
