Big risk: Former Raiders first-rounder returns to NFL after signing…….

Former Raiders first-round pick returns to the NFL after signing with the Cowboys.

There’s some good news for those following the Gareon Conley story: he’s back in the NFL. The idea of the former Raiders’ first-round pick returning an NFL team first surfaced last week, when it was reported that he might try out for the Dallas Cowboys following the conclusion of the UFL season, when he played for the DC Defenders. The tryout went quite well, apparently.

Conley has had quite the trip, having played college ball at Ohio State before being picked by the Raiders in the first round (24th overall) in 2017. During his career with the Raiders, he started 20 out of 23 games. He did not have much of an influence on the squad and was moved to the Houston Texans in 2019. While in Houston, he started 12 of 14 games, but his contract option was declined in the spring of 2020.

He joined with the Defenders in December 2023 and was one of the UFL’s finest corners this season, appearing in seven games for DC and totaling 25 tackles, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
