Bryce Harper pays tribute to West Ham with home run celebration.

As Britpop pioneers Blur taught us, “London loves, the mystery of a speeding car.” London also enjoys the excitement of a high exit velocity home run, such as the one hit by Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper during today’s London Series game.

Harper hit a big home run, breaking the game open and ultimately leading to a Phillies victory over the rival New York Mets.

Check out Harper’s unusual celebration after socking the dinger. Yes, a double knee slide, as is customary after scoring a goal in soccer, football, or futbol. Bryce Harper, who was “miced up” for the FOX coverage of the baseball game, then exclaimed “I love soccer” twice, clearly in reference to where they were playing.

The match took place at the London Stadium, which is home to West Ham United FC, so you can bet the Hammers enjoyed the shoutout.

The Phillies’ official Twitter account went crazy with drawings combining the Phillies with British pop culture stars. You can see the Bryce Harper edition above. Paul M.
