Jarrett Allen’s absence from the 2024 NBA playoffs due to a rib injury is being questioned by a Cavaliers colleague. T

he Athletic revealed that center Jarrett Allen’s teammates were upset that he was unable to participate following his rib injury in Game 4 of the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs, shortly after the Cavaliers were ousted by the Boston Celtics in the second round. Allen allegedly declined to have the pain relieved by an injection.

On Friday, president Koby Altman stated that Allen couldn’t even raise his arms, much less play in an NBA playoff game, while forward Marcus Morris supported the notion that Allen could have played.

Morris remarked, “I can’t speak on how bad it was for Jarrett,” during an appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Run it Back.” “Do I play if you put me in that same situation? Indeed. However, I’m not able to describe how his body felt. Orlando wasn’t surprising to not return in that season because it was a really tough, physical-ass series. I was a little taken aback by the Boston incident, but not overly so by Orlando’s since there were some rough and tumble kids, and things might have turned out differently if he had been hit again. Boston is, in my opinion, more about technique and talent than it is about physicality.”

Morris stated that Allen was free to participate. In his news conference at the end of the season, Altman stated that he was unable to play because of a pierced rib.

“Many people have expressed to me how much it hurts,” Altman told reporters. You are unable to tie your sneakers, sleep, or drive to work. To give you an idea of what Jarrett accomplished, let me say this: Jarrett made an attempt He was trying to jump around on this court and perform some actual basketball moves up until the final day and a half of the season, in my opinion. If you are unable to raise your arms above your head, playing basketball becomes difficult. I am aware that there There are rumors of other things he may have done, but it’s hard to imagine what he was going through.” Altman noted that Allen participated in 81 games without missing any time due to a bone bruise that kept him out of action until the end of the season and a broken rib. In terms of games played and importance, Allen was “the most important player we had all year,” according to Altman.

Despite reports and rumors that they would break up, Altman made it clear during his press conference that even though the Cavaliers will have a new coach for the upcoming season, he does not believe they need to make “sweeping changes” to the squad.

either their big men (Allen and Evan Mobley) or their guards (Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland). Apart from Morris, nobody has publicly stated that Allen could or ought to have participated in the match versus Boston However, one has to question how Allen would feel about playing again with somebody who had such feelings. I wouldn’t be excited about it if I were him.
