- Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, hear Bears scouts evaluate Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze.
Safety Kevin Byard, a free agent acquisition by the Bears, stated it would be a big loss to not be among the NFL’s best defenses this season.
Bears scouts were entrusted with providing general manager Ryan Poles with their evaluations of every player in the draft, including the two they ultimately selected, in the run-up to the 2024 NFL Draft in late April. The Bears go behind the scenes in a new edition of “1920 Football Drive,” where they include scouts discussing their assessments of Rome Odunze, the player they took with the ninth overall pick, and Caleb Williams, the player they drafted first overall.
In the video, the scouts said the following about Williams.
Area scout Reese Hicks stated, “So as a person, very good personal character, good supportive family.” “And he’s got a strong group of teammates supporting him. You know, in spite of all the recognition, he manages to maintain his humility in spite of his accomplishments. “This guy is a true worker, and his teammates adore him. positive feedback from athletes he has played with at Oklahoma and USC. From a makeup perspective, I find that this kid’s aggressiveness is what really sticks out. He detests losing. Whether it’s taking folks along with him or having a strong work ethic, he does whatever it takes to succeed.
Exactly the same as a player. He is unique in the passing game, in fact, in a number of ways. You are aware of the great degree of accuracy and arm strength. The intuition and the ability to make plays when things go wrong are what really catch my attention. Excellent athlete with the ability to maneuver out of problems and make plays downfield. truly pops off the video. And among the few players I’ve ever seen in my scouting career.

Flashes of extraordinary skill with his arm,” stated Francis St. Paul, the Bears’ Senior National Scout. “Able to throw at all three levels from a variety of arm angles. Then Poles instructed his scouts to examine Odunze. What they said about him is as follows. Rome is a wonderful child. Fits the bill both personally and in terms of his football character,” Hicks remarked. “He exudes a positive spirit. Popular in the changing area, mature, all you could ask for. An excellent route runner who is also rather large. The hands and ball skills are what catch my attention. Fast enough to remove the top, but performs effectively in situations when the catch is challenged.”
