Milwaukee Brewers: William Contreras becomes the first catcher since Ivan Rodriguez in 2000 to achieve this rare feat.

William Contreras, the Milwaukee Brewers catcher, is playing like an MVP candidate. GM Matt Arnold made the statement before to Mother’s Day, when his offensive performances were comparable to those of Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts. Since then, the 26-year-old has continued to hit, accomplishing something Ivan Rodriguez last did in 2000.

William Contreras has more than 50 hits through the Milwaukee Brewers first 40 games.  

William Contreras, who splits time as catcher and designated hitter, has not missed a game for the Brewers this season. He has been their offensive leader and currently has 54 hits. This presently places him third in the league, trailing only Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts, who all have 56 hits.

Ivan Rodriguez was the last catcher to collect at least 50 hits in a team’s first 40 games.  

According to StatMuse MLB, the last time a catcher had 50 or more hits during the first 40 games of the season was in 2000. Ivan Rodriguez was the player that did this. That season, he collected 59 hits in 40 games with the Texas Rangers.

William Contreras is on track to be a special player.  

William Contreras has very impressive offensive figures after 334 career games and 1203 at-bats. He has a career slash line of.284/.363/.472, and he is already halfway to 100 home runs. 2024 is his second full season in the major leagues, and he is once again claiming to be the finest offensive catcher in the game.
