Alabama’s DB discusses why teammates never had to worry about him when Nick Saban retired.

Nick Saban’s resignation from the University of Alabama football program affected each player, coach, and fan differently on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Domani Jackson, a transfer cornerback from the University of Southern California, was a top prospect from Mater Dei High School in the 2022 recruiting class. Alabama sought him, but he selected USC, where he played defensive back for two seasons. Jackson would find himself at the 2024 Rose Bowl practices in Pasadena, California, as Alabama faced Michigan in the showdown. The talented defender has previously joined the NCAA transfer portal and confirmed his commitment to the Crimson Tide on December 28, 2023. Thirteen days later, Saban announces his resignation from coaching at Alabama.

Jackson might have simply replicated what those around him did.

He could have entered the portal during its 30-day span and chosen a new home, but he did not. In a podcast with Winner Circle Athletics (WCA), Jackson stated why his teammates never had to worry about him when Saban retired.

“I was already there, so I was not going anywhere,” Jackson remarked.

“My entire mantra was: I know what Alabama is, who they are, and how they grind; that’s what I wanted to be a part of, and I need that in my life. I was like, “I’m not going anywhere.” “You don’t have to worry about me.”

Jackson claimed that many tried to persuade him to leave, but he was completely shut in.

“I made sure all my teammates in the locker room knew I was staying,” he stated.

Greg Byrne, Alabama’s sports director, was under the most stress at the time of Saban’s retirement announcement.

He told everyone in the program to give him 72 hours to locate the replacement head coach, but he completed the task in 48 hours by bringing in Kalen DeBoer from Washington. DeBoer, 49, has developed winning programs or turned colleges around at each coaching appointment. He is enthused about what he can accomplish at Alabama, particularly given the resources at his disposal.

Jackson enjoys the mood DeBoer has brought to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

“He [Greg Byrne] went through a lot,” Jackson explained. “He hired our new coach, Coach DeBoer, and he is excellent. He is an excellent coach. I’m like, “I like his vibe.” “I’m staying regardless.”

Crimson Tide fans are pleased with Jackson’s selection and eager to see what he does for Alabama’s defense.
