It is expected that Nottingham Forest’s appeal against their four-point deduction for violating Premier League financial rules will be heard the week of April 22.

In March, Forest received sanctions for exceeding their permissible threshold of £61 million by £34.5 million in violation of the profitability and sustainability regulations (PSR).

They quickly expressed their displeasure with the independent commission’s decision, and the crux of their defense was the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham on the last day of the 2023 transfer window—a transaction that happened a little bit later than necessary.

They promptly announced their plan to file an appeal, which will now be heard the week following their crucial Premier League trip to Everton on Sunday.

The Toffees are also appealing against their second points deduction of the season, so it’s possible that boardroom litigation could ultimately decide the relegation battle. Nevertheless, the outcome is not anticipated right immediately.

In an attempt to acquire some breathing room at the foot of the table, Forest will present their case once more in the hopes that their penalty will be reviewed.

Their deduction sent them into the relegation zone, but their 2-2 draw with Wolves on Saturday gave them a point above Luton in 18th place.

Everton was originally docked ten points, but after an appeal and subsequent second deduction, they were only docked six points, while Forest only lost four.

In other news, Sheffield United has been docked two points, which will be deducted for the next season that they are an EFL team. Given their current position at the bottom of the Premier League table, it appears that this deduction will occur as soon as next term.
