Reason Why Swiss Army Knife of Talent: Red Sox Prospect Claims Eastern League’s Monthly Accolade……

Versatile Red Sox Prospect Receives Monthly Eastern League Honor

Kristian Campbell quickly established himself in Double-A after being promoted from the Boston Red Sox minor league system. Campbell just made Baseball America’s Top 100 prospect list and was named Eastern League Player of the Month just hours thereafter, according to a team statement.

In 24 games in June, the Red Sox prospect batted.398/.500/.636 for a 1.136 OPS, including four home runs and 16 RBIs. Campbell is positionally versatile, spending the majority of his time between center field and second base. Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kyle Teel remain the top prospects in the Red Sox farm system, but Campbell is swiftly catching up as a name to watch.

Teel and Campbell have won the last two Eastern League Player of the Month awards, a feat the Portland Sea Dogs haven’t achieved since 2011. That’s important given that both players were picked by Boston last summer, Teel in the first round and Campbell in the fourth round.

Campbell is swiftly advancing and gaining earned recognition around the organization. Depending on how the Red Sox perceive him defensively, he may join future second-base discussions alongside Vaughn Grissom and Nick Yorke.
