Stuart Attwell, a Premier League referee, has been selected to oversee VAR for this summer’s Euro 2024.

After failing to signal three strong Nottingham Forest penalty requests to referee Anthony Taylor during their visit to Everton on Sunday, the official found himself in the center of criticism. Forest then took to the public to criticize the VAR choice, citing Attwell’s purported backing of other candidates for relegation. Luton rendered him prejudiced.

Analysts and former players have voiced their disapproval of Forest for their public protest, although Attwell’s Sunday calls remain under investigation. However, he and David Coote, another Premier League referee, have been selected to operate VAR at this year’s Euros in Germany.
