Chris Sutton’s commentary during a recent Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers, which resulted in an exciting 3-3 tie, has drawn criticism, albeit not much. Three spectators complained to the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, after former Celtic striker Sutton made a joke during the game. The Daily Express in Scotland

The remarks in question were made following a bold panenka penalty by Matt O’Riley of Celtics. Matt O’Riley showed incredible nerve by going on live television, as Sutton complimented his audacity. Panenka. That takes courage. This season, Celtic hasn’t had much success with penalties, but in this match, you really need to have some balls. After reading this message, several viewers thought the commentary might be inappropriate and contacted Ofcom.

The quick remark “did not raise issues warranting investigation under our rules,” according to Ofcom, which is why it has chosen not to look into it. This response draws attention to the regulator’s standard, which was not fulfilled in this instance, for investigating complaints pertaining to broadcast material.

Sutton, who recently switched from BT Sports to Sky Sports, has been a noteworthy addition to the latter’s coverage and is frequently viewed as a counterbalance to other experts’ (usually biased) criticism. For those who are looking for a better balance, the change seems like a breath of fresh air.

With Celtic and Rangers vying for the championship, the season is heating up, and everyone’s eyes will be on the forthcoming games, which include another thrilling Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park.

Commentators like Sutton will play a critical part in crafting the narrative surrounding these important games as the league’s conclusion draws near. We’re not sure why Chris was selected for anything, considering some of the cries that the crowd was making that day.
