Starling Marte of the Mets is expected to miss at least a month due to a knee bone injury.

NEW YORK (AP) – Due to a major bone bruise in his right knee, outfielder Starling Marte of the New York Mets is projected to miss at least a month of action.

On Tuesday, manager Carlos Mendoza stated Ever since the June 3–5 series against the Washington Nationals, Marte has been playing with discomfort.

“Playing (in) D.C., he went after a ball and then when he got back to his position, he felt something,” Mendoza explained.

Due to maintenance concerns, Marte missed four games between June 5 and last Friday. He then left the game after only one at-bat during Saturday’s 8-1 defeat to the Chicago Cubs. Mendoza stated that Marte will have to miss two weeks of baseball in order to have another MRI.

In Tuesday’s Subway Series opener against the Yankees, Tyrone Taylor started in right field in Marte’s place. He will probably alternate there with DJ Stewart and Ben Gamel, the latter of whom was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday to take Marte’s spot on the active roster.

With seven home runs, thirty RBIs, and twelve stolen bases in as many attempts this season, Marte, 35, is hitting.278. He played in 13 games this month, hitting.304 with one home run, seven RBIs, and three steals despite the knee ailment.
