Celtic defeats Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup Football Semi-Final on April 20, 2024, at Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland. James Forrest of Celtic celebrates with his teammates after scoring a goal in the 63rd minute to give Celtic a 2-1 lead.
But Ester Sokler drove the game into overtime in the waning moments. After that, Matt O’Riley believed he had won it, but Angus MacDonald’s header in the 119th minute sent the game to penalties.
The Celtics were exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally, yet they came back and prevailed on penalty kicks.
After goals from Adam Idah, Luis Palma, Matt O’Riley, Paulo Bernardo, and Tomoki Iwata, Joe Hart made an incredible save to send his club through.
The fans praised the veteran goalie as a hero after the game, and he was spotted shaking hands with Jonny Hayes, a former Celtic.
The Irishman didn’t play for Aberdeen because he wasn’t in the squad, but he seemed happy after the game even though his team lost to the opposition in the cup:
Hayes was a devoted servant of Celtic. During his three years at the club, he was always dependable and was rewarded with eight trophies.
