According to GOAL Brazil, Luis Guilherme is likely to present himself for a medical shortly before joining West Ham.

Exclusive: West Ham 'Close to Signing' Luis Guilherme

On June 4, the outlet said on their website that Hammers technical director Tim Steidten is in Brazil, attempting to clinch a deal for the teenage attacker, and is extremely near.

He is in advanced talks on a move that is likely to cost €30 million [£25.5 million], with an initial payment of €23 million [£19.6 million] and a 20% sell-on clause.

On Monday, there were fears that the deal would collapse late in the day, as it did for fellow Brazilian Patricio Bruno at Flamengo, but it has since been revived and is nearing completion amid fears of a late hijack [Nizaar Kinsella, 3 June].

West Ham close to first deal of Julen Lopetegui era

No move is certain until formally confirmed, but this one appears to be more risky than others.

Steidten appears to have taken the transaction back from the brink of failure, and he appears to be having a difficult time guiding it through the last phases, but he appears to be on the verge of success.

If he can complete what appears to be a challenging transfer, he deserves praise, especially after his position was called into doubt when it appeared like the summer would begin with two movements collapsing.

The medical should be one of the last steps before everything is signed and West Ham can focus on acquiring more targets for Julen Lopetegui’s official start date on July 1, so the club will be hoping that there are no unexpected complications.

The Irons are sparse in offensive areas and rely heavily on Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, but securing such a sought-after young talent would be a positive start to the transfer window.

Assuming Guilherme signs with the club, there will be great expectations for him considering the trials involved in getting him in, so Lopetegui will be charged with integrating the youngster into the squad in a way that allows him to adjust to the Premier League without being overwhelmed by pressure.

In other West Ham news, another attacker is interested in moving to the London Stadium, with conversations underway.
