BBC Nwes: “Devastating Blow: Houston Astros Hit with Heartbreaking Injury Amid Struggles!”

Yordan Alvarez injury update: Astros manager sheds light on $115,000,000 All-Star's condition following collision with fence

Struggling The Houston Astros apparently received heartbreaking injury news.

The Houston Astros have gotten devastating injury news: Cristian Javier will have Tommy John surgery.

To say things aren’t going well for the Houston Astros would be an understatement. They enter MLB games today with a terrible 27-34 record and third place in the American League West.

Injuries have obviously contributed to Houston’s troubles this season. Starters including Framber Valdez, Justin Verlander, and Cristian Javier have all missed time due to injury.

Tuesday’s announcement will make things even more difficult for manager Joe Espada and his team as the season progresses.

Chandler Rome of The Athletic writes that Javier will get Tommy John surgery. Javier’s last start was on May 21 against the Los Angeles Angels. Three days after his début, Javier was placed on the disabled list due to “right forearm discomfort.”

“In the best-case scenario, Javier could return late in the 2025 season, earning $10 million.” Javier has a 3.89 ERA in seven starts this season,” according to a report on Javier’s recovery timeframe.

Cristian Javier injury news is the latest blow to the Houston Astros

Javier, 27, has a 33-18 record, 3.59 ERA, and 1.14 WHIP since making his Astros debut in 2020. He’s been up and down during his time in Houston. But has been a consistent force in the rotation (63 starts since the start of the 2022 season).

All of this raises huge roster questions for the underperforming Houston Astros. Hunter Brown has been a catastrophe on the mound (6.18 ERA, 1.57 WHIP). Spencer Arrighetti has pitched with a 5.98 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP.

While Ronel Blanco (2.44 ERA in 10 starts) has performed well, these difficulties threaten to derail what appears to be a lost season.

Despite all of this, Astros general manager Dana Brown has no plans to blow things up before the MLB trade deadline.

“I don’t see any possibility of us becoming sellers. I believe the team is too good. “If guys start to turn a corner, good things will happen,” Brown said of the Houston Astros’ plans in May.

The impact of Tuesday’s announcement on the dynamics remains to be seen.
