Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears offense had a bad practice

Williams did not have a good practice on Thursday. He was working without Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen, both wide receivers. (Nate Davis and Darnell Wright were also absent for the 11-on-11 portion of practice.) Williams only completed three passes in the 7-on-7 exercise. He did not fare much better in the team phase.

Kevin Byard sent Williams a message after practice

Byard helped the Bears secondary make life difficult for Williams. Byard addressed to the reporters after the defensive bloodbath. The two-time All-Pro stated he spoke with Williams after the session. Byard convinced Williams that the training will make him a better quarterback.

“Days like this are going to make you better,” said Byard.

Many Bears supporters were concerned this offseason that the locker room would not accept Justin Fields’ replacement. However, the entire squad is already rallying around Williams as their quarterback of the future. A strong team culture will go a long way toward boosting Williams’ confidence, even as he experiences growing pains before and during his rookie season.

Williams lit the Bears defense up on Day 1

The Bears defense wants to challenge Williams and believes it should be ahead of the offense at this point in the offseason. Byard stated that not all of the Bears’ sessions this week have been lopsided in favor of the defense.

“The first day, the offense really got after us,” said Byard. “[Williams] made some solid throws, including some deep passes. He had a great day. Today, we went after him.

Byard expressed his excitement to play with the Bears’ secondary this season. He stated that the culture is fantastic, that the team is “hungry.”
