Tom Brady offers sound advise to Caleb Williams and other top rooks ahead of the 2024 NFL season.
There are several rookie quarterbacks who NFL organizations are betting on for the 2024 season, and several of them received advice from legendary New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady on how they should conduct themselves throughout their rookie seasons and throughout their careers.
“When you have 53 players on the squad, you think it’s all about you, but it isn’t. “It’s about us,” Tom Brady told Michael Rubin on X. “And the biggest issue I see with a lot of the young players nowadays is that you’re making it too much about me and I because of social media, branding, and so on. It’s fine; you’re not going to win. There was a distinction between being a celebrity and a champion. Every day of practice was crucial
Do you know why? Because when I was on the Patriots and we won for 20 years, every day was a special occasion. I treated a preseason game and a regular season game as if they were the Super Bowl. I treated the Super Bowl like any other day. No one in your life should have bigger expectations of you than you.”
It’s not surprising that Brady had this type of counsel for rookies, given that he was obviously revved up before almost every game of his career, first with the Patriots and later with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That contributes significantly to Brady’s seven Super Bowl victories. These rookie quarterbacks want to replicate some of their success in the NFL.
Outlook for 2024 NFL rookie quarterbacks
Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr, JJ McCarthy, and Bo Nix were the six quarterbacks taken in the first round. They all ended up in interesting places for various reasons. Spencer Rattler, Jordan Travis, Joe Milton, Devin Leary, and Michael Pratt all went later in the draft and appear to be backups.
The first-round quarterbacks face a variety of situations. Caleb Williams is arguably in the best position, which is unusual for a No. 1 choice. He joined the Chicago Bears and now has multiple weapons to throw to, as well as a strong offensive line and defense. Caleb Williams was seen as a generational potential by many, and expectations will be high in his first year.
Jayden Daniels is not considered a generational prospect, but he appears to have a decent chance of playing straight away for the Washington Commanders. He is regarded as an effective passer with possibly exceptional mobility and rushing abilities.
Drake Maye hopes to follow in Tom Brady’s footsteps with the Patriots, and he appears to be a starter who will sit for a short period of time. However, many believe that his athletic abilities give him a real chance to play in the NFL. The Patriots’ roster is not very good, but Maye possesses the tools to be a franchise quarterback, and it will be up to him to put in the work.
Michael Penix Jr. was a contentious choice for the Atlanta Falcons following the signing of Kirk Cousins in free agency. He will most likely have the opportunity to take over under center for a great squad.
That was also true for JJ McCarthy, despite the fact that his selection was less controversial. When he takes the field, he will have the opportunity to throw to a number of great receivers, including Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. It would be surprising if he did not play at least once this season. He is a former Michigan Wolverine, exactly like Tom Brady.
Finally, Bo Nix was Sean Payton’s favorite player, and he is an experienced quarterback who will very certainly start right away for the Denver Broncos.
It’ll be interesting to watch who follows Brady’s advise and becomes the most successful quarterback in this selection class.
