Panutche Camara had a lot of potential when he joined Ipswich Town after excelling at Plymouth, but he hasn’t demonstrated that skill in Suffolk.

For the first time since 2010, Plymouth Argyle is playing in the Championship and is now fighting for their lives.
Ian Foster was fired as head coach of the Pilgrims last week following a winless stretch of 11 league games. The Scouser’s tenure was among the shortest in the league this season.
After winning League One with Plymouth the previous season, Steven Schumacher resigned in December to take up a position at Stoke City, leaving him in charge.
Following their promotion from League Two in 2020, Plymouth played in the third division for three seasons while they sought a return to the Championship after more than ten years away.
Panutche Camara, a central midfielder, was a major factor in the team’s drive for the top six the season before they advanced, although just missing out on the playoffs.
Camara was a standout player at Plymouth, but after moving to Ipswich Town in the summer of 2022, he hasn’t been able to continue his career upward.
Arguably the best years of Camara’s career to date occurred during his stint at Plymouth.
After leaving Crawley Town in August 2020, Camara accepted a new contract offer from the Red Devils and then joined Argyle.
“He was somebody that I was really really keen to try and bring to the club because being a midfield player, I was always saying to (former Argyle manager) Ryan (Lowe) ‘he would be my worst nightmare to ever play against in midfield’ because he’s got these long legs, you think you’ve got the ball and he just takes it off you,” said Schumacher, who was only Ryan Lowe’s assistant when Camara arrived in Devon.
Schumacher accurately described the situation. Because of his stature, skill to win balls, and ability to maneuver through tight spots in the middle of the park, he was a dangerous opponent for the opposition.
Camara made 95 appearances in all competitions during his two seasons at Home Park, tallying 10 goals and dishing out 10 assists.
Camara’s representation informed Plymouth that he would not be signing a new contract at Home Park after months of negotiations for a better deal. As a result, he became available for transfer.
This resulted in his transfer to Ipswich, where he signed a contract worth an estimated £500,000 with a view to staying until 2024. Many saw this as a huge coup for the League One promotion-chasing team.
After failing to perform well, Panutche Camara appears destined to depart Ipswich Town this summer.
Unfortunately, Camara’s injury issues have prevented him from making an impression at Ipswich.
After recovering from the groin injury that had sidelined him for the first part of the season, he sustained another one that required surgery and kept him out of action for the remainder of it, playing in just four games.
Massimo Luongo and Sam Morsy in the middle of the park meant that game time would be restricted after Ipswich was promoted to the Championship. As a result, Luongo signed a loan to Charlton Athletic.
Yet another injury has derailed his Addicks campaign; this time, a hamstring problem has kept him out of action for a significant portion of the campaign.
Despite his injuries, Camara has found it difficult to repeat the kind of play he displayed at Plymouth with Ipswich, and it now appears very probable that he will sign a free transfer when his contract ends in the summer.
Camara, who is 27 years old, has the potential to be a top-tier third-tier player if he can stay healthy, but based on the past two seasons, that is probably easier said than done. A League One team will probably take a chance on him…
