David Gilmour Announces First Solo Album in Nearly a Decade: Title Release Date Revealed

David Gilmour, the legendary guitarist of Pink Floyd, has unveiled his first solo album in nine years, titled Luck and Strange. The album was officially released on September 6, 2024, under Sony Music.

Luck and Strange marks a significant departure from Gilmour’s previous works, both in sound and personal involvement. The album was recorded over five months in Brighton and London, with Gilmour co-producing alongside Charlie Andrew, known for his work with alt-J and Marika Hackman. Andrew’s approach challenged Gilmour to rethink traditional song structures, resulting in a fresh and innovative sound.

A notable aspect of the album is the deep personal involvement of Gilmour’s family. His wife, novelist Polly Samson, penned most of the lyrics, which delve into themes of aging and mortality. Their children, Romany, Gabriel, and Charlie, contributed vocals and instrumentation, with Romany also co-writing and performing on the track “Between Two Points.” Gilmour described the collaborative process as “liberating and magical,” emphasizing the joy of creating music with his loved ones.

The album’s title track features previously unreleased keyboard recordings by the late Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, adding a poignant touch to the project.
