Netflix has officially wrapped production on a brand-new documentary centered on the life and legacy of Ray Manzarek, the legendary keyboardist and co-founder of The Doors. Titled “Break On Through: The Ray Manzarek Story,” the film promises a deep, intimate look into the creative force behind one of rock music’s most influential bands.

In a recent statement, the production team shared, “We are happy to announce that we are done with production, and it will be released on August 15, 2025.” The announcement has ignited excitement among music fans and documentary lovers alike, as Manzarek’s story has rarely been told in such focused detail.

The documentary is said to explore Manzarek’s formative years in Chicago, his fateful meeting with Jim Morrison at UCLA, and the dynamic collaboration that birthed The Doors. Beyond his years with the band, the film will delve into his solo work, including his projects in poetry, film, and jazz fusion, shedding light on the full scope of his artistic vision.

Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, personal interviews with surviving members of The Doors, as well as insights from contemporary musicians inspired by Manzarek’s work, the documentary aims to paint a rich, multi-dimensional portrait of the artist. It also includes personal reflections from his family, offering a glimpse into the man behind the music.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rachel Winter (Dallas Buyers Club), “Break On Through” is positioned to become a significant entry in Netflix’s growing catalog of music documentaries. It follows the success of past Netflix features on artists such as Nina Simone, Bob Dylan, and Taylor Swift.
