For their last league game of the season, Taylor was left off of the roster. After stalemate with Port Vale, Cambridge managed to avoid dropping down to League Two.

“The Club would like to place on record its appreciation to all departing players for their hard work and professionalism whilst with Cambridge United, and wish them the very best for the future,” Cambridge wrote in a press release as a farewell to Taylor and the other six players who were leaving.

Taylor joined Birmingham City on loan from Nottingham Forest and scored five goals in 14 appearances during the 2021–2022 season.

But his connection to Birmingham City didn’t end there. Even though he was a free agent until November, he kept playing for the Montserrat national football team, managed by former Blues coach Lee Bowyer.

Strangely, in September, a poster outside St Andrew’s demanded that Taylor rejoin the team. A graphic with his picture included the words “Craig (Gardner) listen to the fans.” Take him back to his house. He went on trial at relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday for a couple of weeks but did not gain a deal as Xisco Munoz was ousted and subsequently replaced by Danny Rohl.
