In an attempt to slow down England’s progress, Holder and Joshua Da Silva played patiently, but Gus Atkinson’s two wickets in an over soon reversed the trend. After bowling Alzarri Joseph to dismiss the tourists at 113-8, he trapped Da Silva lbw.
The final two wickets of Holder and Shamar Joseph went to Bashir as a prize.
In the end, the tourists were amazed, but earlier in the day, everything was in perfect harmony.
From their overnight position of 248-3, West Indies had hoped to defeat England for a pittance; but, Joe Root hit 122, becoming the ninth highest scorer in Test history, while Harry Brook achieved his first Test century at home.
West Indies, who will travel to Edgbaston hoping to avoid a rout, will find that England was all out for 425 and that the win mark of 385 was well beyond their reach.
