Troy Parrott, who completed a £6.7 million move from Tottenham to AZ Alkmaar, has expressed his sincere gratitude to Spurs supporters after leaving the team.

Following his permanent departure from Tottenham, Troy Parrott wrote a poignant letter to the club’s supporters. After spending the previous season on loan in the Eredivisie with Excelsior, the Republic of Ireland international finalized his departure by signing with AZ Alkmaar.

After he scored 17 goals in his debut season in the Netherlands the previous year, he attracted interest from many European teams, and on Saturday afternoon, the 22-year-old eventually confirmed a €8 million (£6.7 million) deal. At AZ, Parrott will don the No. 9 jersey.

Spurs will be eligible for an additional sum if and when Parrott leaves Arizona, as the deal includes a 20% sell-on provision. Alternatively, the provision implies they might claim a discount on a full-price move if they decide to bring him back to north London.

Although Parrott had been considered the squad’s greatest finisher as a young player, he only made four appearances in the first team throughout his youth career. This youth career has resulted in 23 games and five goals for the Republic of Ireland national team.

The Republic of Ireland international, 22, was in the Netherlands on Friday, finalizing his 8 million euro transfer to Alkmaar. Parrott came to Tottenham as a young player from Belvedere, but he only made four senior appearances for the team. He had a series of unsuccessful loan stints at Millwall, Ipswich, MK Dons, and Preston before this season’s Eredivisie loan with Excelsior Rotterdam truly spurred his development.

After Parrott scored 17 goals in the Netherlands during the previous campaign, AZ jumped to the top of the line to retain the striker in the nation. Though it took some time to reach an agreement with Tottenham, it is finally finalized, and the player has been granted permission to fly to finalize his end of the bargain.

One recurring theme throughout this most trying of seasons has been Nottingham Forest’s dissatisfaction with the referees; this weekend, they will be officiated by one who has already been involved in a contentious incident in one of their games.

Sunday’s match between Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds and Manchester City at the City Ground takes place one week after the former made an outspoken comment following the denial of his team’s penalty claims against Everton.

They now know Simon Hooper will officiate their match against Pep Guardiola’s title contenders as the fallout from their statement on Goodison Park VAR Stuart Attwell continues.

When Hooper last played for Forest, they were defeated 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur on April 7. During the match, Ryan Yates and James Maddison clashed, and Hooper failed to see what happened that made Nuno angry. That day, the Spurs midfielder gave Yates a nudge to the stomach; Hooper missed the incident, but VAR ruled it out.

After the game, Nuno expressed his displeasure, saying, “I was surprised VAR didn’t [send Maddison off].” Maddison lost her nerve and gave Yates a stomach punch. Clearly, what they saw and what we observed are different. If I wasn’t positive, I wouldn’t say anything.”

The opinionated public disagreed with Nuno, with former Reds coach and player Roy Keane stating: “I had Yates at Forest; he was a really kind guy, but he fell every time someone touched him. He collapses far too quickly. He should stop doing it in his game because he is such a good boy.”

Yates struck the deck and made a motion for a video assistant review, but referee Michael Salisbury believed there was no proof of any physical contact.

Dermot Gallagher, a former referee, however, believed Maddison lacked “a leg to stand on.” On Sunday, Peter Bankes will be Hooper’s VAR.
