Claims WNBA double-double record as a rookie, Reese
On Sunday, rookie Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky achieved a record-breaking 13 consecutive double-doubles, setting a new WNBA record.
On Friday, Reese, the seventh overall selection in this year’s WNBA draft, matched Candace Parker’s previous mark for the longest double-double run in the league.
On Sunday, the Sky suffered an 84-71 loss at the hands of the Seattle Storm, despite the 22-year-old’s 17 points and 14 rebounds.
A day earlier, Reese set a milestone when she helped the Indiana Fever defeat the New York Liberty 83-78 at home, making history as the first rookie in WNBA history to register a triple-double.
Clark, who is 22 years old and the first overall draft selection, led the Fever with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists.
Reese and Clark, who carried over their rivalry from college basketball into the WNBA, were both chosen for the WNBA All-Star game on July 20 against the US women’s national team. They are also in the running for this season’s Rookie of the Year title.
In the 2023 NCAA title game, Clark led Iowa in scoring, but Reese led LSU to a 102-85 victory and was voted the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
Despite losing to South Carolina in the title game, Clark helped Iowa bounce back from that setback by defeating LSU 94-87 to get to the Final Four.
