Pep Guardiola made a fantastic offer by tennis star at Wimbledon following Bayern Munich’s plea.
Pep Guardiola sat in Wimbledon’s Royal Box and, after witnessing Alexander Zverev win his third round match, was promised he could coach the German if he decided to leave football.
Alexander Zverev has expressed an interest in working with Pep Guardiola as a coach.
The Manchester City manager was in the Royal Box at Wimbledon to watch the German defeat home favourite Cam Norrie in straight sets. World No. 4 Zverev has reached multiple Grand Slam finals but has yet to cross the finish line as he seeks a historic victory.
Guardiola witnessed his dominant victory, with Zverev addressing the Catalan immediately following his on-court interview. The City manager has been in charge since 2008, with only one year out, and he remains a serial winner in England’s top flight.
He spent three seasons as head coach of Bayern Munich, where he won three Bundesliga titles and various other domestic trophies. Zverev is a Bayern Munich supporter who joked about returning to the Allianz Arena while also offering him the opportunity to become his coach.
He stated, “For me and many tennis players, it is an honor to play on this gorgeous Centre Court and in front of the Royal Box, as we had so many athletic legends today.
“When I watched Pep Guardiola, I became quite nervous for a few games. Thank you so much for attending; it is an honor to play. Last thing: Bayern Munich requires a coach. If you’re weary with football, you can instruct me on the tennis court at any time.”
Guardiola descended from the Royal Box and spoke one-on-one with Zverev thereafter. The German claimed he would be delighted to host the City manager in his box after Guardiola announced he would not be returning to Wimbledon owing to high demand for excellent seats.
The two later posed for photos after Zverev gave Guardiola one of his rackets. The German, who lost in the last French Open final to Carlos Alcaraz, will now face 13th seed Taylor Fritz in the fourth round, with a possible semi-final against Novak Djokovic if both men advance that far.
Guardiola, meanwhile, is taking a break after leading City to a record fourth consecutive Premier League title. He still has a year on his contract at the Etihad and, despite Zverev’s jokes, will not return to Munich after the club signed Vincent Kompany as manager.
