Denny Hamlin: Kyle Larson ‘was out of control’ in his crash with Ross Chastain

Denny Hamlin felt Kyle Larson was “out of control” during his first overtime effort in Sunday’s Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway.

Larson dove into Turn 1 after the restart, but hit the pavement below the yellow line and rocketed back up the track. Larson collided with Ross Chastain, who was on the outside of Hamlin, the race leader at the moment. On his “Actions Detrimental” podcast, Hamlin stated that he felt Larson or Chastain would be aggressive on the restart, which is why he chose the bottom lane.

I just think Kyle was out of control,” Hamlin said. “Should I have been thinking that his thought process post-race is ‘Yeah, I was trying to knock the 11 up the racetrack and then I can get clean air.’ Well, that would have wrecked the 1 [Chastain] as well. Because the 1 is on the outside of me. I think he was OK just crashing whoever was in front of him.”
