Losing a crucial player to the Pistons might cause a major trade shock for the Mavericks.

Teams are rushing to make last-minute trades with the draft picks they have left this season as the NBA Draft enters its final two days on Thursday. On Wednesday night, though, the Detroit Pistons were among the few clubs in action.

NBA playoffs 2024 - Two under-the-radar trades turned the Mavericks into a real West threat - ESPN

Dennis Lindsey, a former Mavericks official who only worked for a year in the Dallas front office, was hired by Detroit the day before, sparking the chaos. It came as no surprise to many that after hiring Trajan Langdon as the organization’s President of Basketball Operations, Detroit attempted to completely rebuild the franchise, including the front office, following a 14-68 campaign.

Lindsey has played for a number of outstanding teams in the past, most notably the San Antonio Spurs during their early-2010 title campaigns. It’s not shocking to see a rival team attempting to establish a strong culture by bringing in someone with Lindsey’s experience, especially because Dallas is now on the rise. In light of this, Detroit might be keen to add some seasoned players to support their emerging players.

If the Mavericks lose Dennis Lindsey to the Pistons, Tim Hardaway Jr. might be traded.

The Mavericks have made it clear that they intend to sell one of their long-term veterans, and Dallas may have finally found Tim Hardaway Jr.’s ideal suitor with Detroit’s acquisition of Lindsey. However, there are still plenty of moves to be made.

Hardaway Jr. has been a trade target for a while, and Dallas might finally make a move for him following a poor postseason. The Mavericks might benefit from a trade for the veteran sharpshooter Lindsey, who was linked to the Pistons in recent days. Detroit may suddenly be interested in acquiring him.

Quentin Grimes, a rookie guard for the Pistons, has already piqued Dallas’ interest, and this could be the ideal time to sign him. It appears that Dallas will get Grimes if Hardaway Jr. is sent to the Pistons. Grimes has surfaced as a possible component in a trade that sends Hardaway Jr. to Detroit.

Hardaway Jr. has battled defensively at the point of attack and on the perimeter all of his career; Grimes provides excellent coverage in both areas. Grimes has additionally demonstrated his ability to make three-pointers at a fast pace, which adds to the Mavericks’ interest in this transaction.

In addition to strengthening Dallas’ defense, adding Grimes would free up some cap room because Hardaway Jr. is currently under contract for 16 million dollars this coming season. It might be difficult for some Mavs supporters to see Hardaway Jr. go, but it might be time to see him in a different uniform after a lengthy stay in Dallas.

Stay tuned as we will provide you with updates on the Dallas Mavericks and their offseason actions.
