A Startling 5-Word Remark by Patrick Mahomes Regarding Bills Supporters
The first time he had to face Buffalo Bills supporters on the road is something Patrick Mahomes won’t soon forget.
In January, Mahomes guided the Chiefs to victory on the road during the divisional round of the playoffs, edging out the Bills to go to the AFC championship game. This was Mahomes’ first encounter with Bills supporters; he had only visited Buffalo once before, in 2020, for a game that was played in front of a vacant stadium.
“It seems like these people don’t like me,” Mahomes said to host Logan Paul. “It is not at all phony.”
Mahomes made an unexpected comment regarding Bills supporters and their rivalry with his team despite the icy reception.
He remarked, “Their fan base is enormous.”
Patrick Mahomes Appreciated the Rude Environment
Mahomes cited the instant his team landed in Buffalo for the playoff game in response to the question of whether he had played long enough to establish himself as a “villain” in the league.
“The entire team played a more villainous role this year,” Mahomes remarked. “I didn’t realize it was real until I got to Buffalo this year, and I think I saw 40,000 middle fingers on the way into the stadium,” he continued.
After the game, Mahomes recalled a play in which the Chiefs survived after the Bills missed a late field goal that would have tied the score. The quarterback for the Chiefs claimed that as he approached a small fan to give him his sleeve, a barrage of snowballs was hurled by Bills supporters.
“Snowballs are flying at me while I’m trying to give my sleeve and headband to a kid,” Mahomes remarked.
However, the quarterback for the Chiefs stated that he respects their fervor and enjoys the rivalry that has developed between this squad and the Bills.
Mahomes, who has sent the Bills home in the playoffs three of the last four seasons, stated, “We have a healthy respect and rivalry with the Bills and the fan base, they just want to beat us.”
Bills Supporters Received Backlash for Insulting Patrick Mahomes
Not all people were as understanding as Mahomes. After the game, some Bills fans were criticized for throwing snowballs at the Chiefs quarterback as he was having a chat with a young fan on the sidelines.
Mahomes had to duck for cover as the snowballs kept coming as he was making his way off the field and toward the locker room via the tunnel.
After the game, Mahomes maintained his composure, stating that he was pleased to show the stadium’s patrons that his team could defeat the Bills while playing on the road.
“Man, this is a terrific environment right off the bat. After the game, Mahomes told NFL.com reporter Tracy Wolfson from CBS that “it really is.” “Yeah, we’ve been hearing about playing a road game all week, but our goal is to demonstrate our versatility and make a point.”
