Guns N'Roses

My heart goes out to the Campbell family and @phil_campbell_and_the_bs . Phil is one of the most kind and FUNNY humans out there and made the world a better place. Period. I will miss you my friend and I still owe you a prank! This is heartbreaking man…..

It’s rare in life to meet someone whose presence feels like sunshine in a room someone whose laughter is infectious, whose kindness is real, and whose spirit resonates long after they’ve left. Today, I find myself trying to put into words the feeling of loss that has settled so heavily in my chest. To the Campbell family and the entire @phil_campbell_and_the_bs community: my heart goes out to you. What we’ve lost with the passing of Phil Campbell is more than a guitarist or a bandmate — we’ve lost a dear friend, a generous soul, and one of the funniest, most lovable humans to ever grace a stage and a friendship.

Phil’s journey was nothing short of extraordinary. Born in Pontypridd, Wales, he didn’t just pick up a guitar he breathed life into it. From his early days influenced by legends like Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page, to becoming one of rock’s most beloved figures, he showed us what passion looks like lived fully. In 1984, he stepped into the world of Motörhead, one of the most iconic rock bands in history, and held that position for over three decades an achievement that alone would solidify his place in music history.

But Phil was never just about music. He was about laughter, connection, and love.

In the world of rock ’n’ roll, where ego and spectacle can sometimes overshadow soul, Phil was refreshingly genuine. He didn’t just play riffs he played with heart. He didn’t just tour the world he formed bonds that lasted a lifetime. He lived with joy, and he shared that joy with everyone around him. Friends, fans, roadies, fellow artists Phil didn’t discriminate. His kindness was broad, his humor was sharp, and his presence was uplifting. Many people who met him spoke of his warm smile, his quick joke, and the comfort he brought simply by being present.

One of the most beautiful parts of Phil’s story was how he embraced family — not just as a personal value, but as a musical force. After the passing of Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister in 2015, Phil didn’t retreat from life he reinvented it. He formed Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons alongside his three sons, Todd, Dane, and Tyla, crafting music that honored rock’s roots while creating space for new legacy. This was more than a band it was a testament to love, to resilience, and to the power of belonging together.

Today, the memories we hold of Phil are colored not only by his guitar solos but by the echo of his laughter. It’s so heartbreaking not just because a legend is gone, but because a friend who brought so much light to the world is no longer here to laugh with us, to share another story, to deliver that unexpected prank he once promised. I still owe you a prank, Phil — and somehow that small thought captures the immense grief and the warmth of our connection. That’s what makes this loss so real. That’s what makes it hurt.

I think so many of us feel it that tug in the chest when we remember the last time we spoke to him or saw him play. It’s not just sorrow; it’s gratitude tangled with disbelief. We are grateful for the memories, the music, the friendship and yet, stunned that he won’t be here anymore to create more. That contradiction is the hardest part of grief.

Tributes have poured in from around the world, capturing what many fans and fellow musicians realized the moment they met him: Phil was extraordinary not because of what he did, but because of who he was. Stories shared online reflect a man quick to smile, quicker to joke, and always ready to lift others up. Countless peers in the rock community remembered him as one of the “nicest guys you could ever meet” a sentiment echoed across social media in the days following the news of his passing.

And yet, even as the world mourns, there is something comforting in the collective remembrance. It’s as though every shared memory, every fan picture, every quote about an inside joke becomes a tribute not just to Phil’s talent but to the joy he spread. That is his legacy: the music, yes but more deeply, the connections, the laughs, the moments when he made someone feel seen or valued.

To the Campbell family we see you. We stand with you in this profound moment of sorrow. Losing a father, a husband, a grandfather, and a beacon of light is something no family should ever have to face alone. The love you shared with him is evident in every statement, every tribute, every ripple of grief that’s spreading through the global rock community. We mourn with you, we honor his life with you, and we celebrate the extraordinary impact he had on all of us.

Right now, as fans and friends, we are holding onto the memories that make us laugh and the moments that make us cry. We are remembering every time he made us tap our feet, every note that stirred our hearts, and every time he reminded us that life even in its hardest moments is meant to be lived with passion, with love, and yes, with a sense of humor.

So today, we say thank you.

Thank you for the music.
Thank you for the laughter.
Thank you for the friendship.
Thank you for every moment you gave us.

And though saying goodbye feels unbearably heavy, we carry you with us  in the songs that still play, in the stories we’ll continue to share, and in the memories that remind us that life, when lived with heart and spirit like yours, never truly ends.

Rest in peace, Phil. We will miss you deeply and I’ll still get you that prank someday
