NFC East news: Eagles receivers are pleased with new offensive concept under Kellen Moore.

Eagles wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith like the freedom of Kellen Moore’s new approach, according to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports.

The revamped Philadelphia offense is a pleasant sight in the wide receiver room.

Philadelphia — “Motion” was the main word in the Philadelphia Eagles offense last season, and for all the wrong reasons.

The NFL has shifted to pass catchers moving fluidly at the line of scrimmage before the ball is snapped. The San Francisco 49ers employed motion prior to the snap 70.2% of the time, while the Kansas City Chiefs did 60.5%. Both Super Bowl teams ranked in the top four in offensive plays with a player in motion.

The Eagles were dead last in that area, with 26.4%, the only team in the NFL under 30%. The Eagles were the only club from the bottom six in terms of percentage of offensive plays with a player in motion to make the playoffs.

As a result, the offence was predictable. It was stale.

That is why Nick Sirianni’s offense is no longer central to the Eagles’ game plan. Kellen Moore joins the team, bringing a new twist and an offensive strategy to an already talented lineup.

More motion is included, which the Eagles’ playmakers enthusiastically embrace.

“I think it’s going to be great,” DeVonta Smith stated during mandatory minicamp last week. “Get a fresh sort of offense going. Allow guys to do things that we weren’t permitted to do, rather than having more freedom.

“Move people about, stuff like that. Overall, having a clean slate is usually beneficial.

Since Nick Sirianni became head coach, the Eagles have set a receiver in motion on 30.1% of their plays, the fewest of any club in the NFL. The league average during that time was 47.0%.

A alteration was necessary.

“I’d say when it comes to certain routes, trusting each other, me and Jalen [Hurts], Smitty [DeVonta Smith], everyone on the field,” said A.J. Brown. “Just trusting each other and getting on the same page. Make sure you have a spot when the time comes.

Giants sign former UFL running back Jacob Saylors; place WR Chase Cota on IR – Matt Citak, Giants.com
Following Saquon Barkley’s departure, New York acquired depth to its backfield.

The Giants have signed Jacob Saylors, a former United Football League running back.

In a corresponding move, wide receiver Chase Cota has been placed on injured reserve.

Saylors spent the 2024 UFL season with the St. Louis Battlehawks. The 5-foot-10, 199-pound running back had 94 rush attempts for 461 yards (4.9 average) and five touchdowns, as well as 23 receptions for 152 yards and three scores.

The 24-year-old was named All-UFL after leading all running backs in rushing yards and tying for second in rushing touchdowns.

After going undrafted in 2023, Saylors signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he rushed nine times for 27 yards in the preseason before being waived. He later spent time on the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad.

Saylors spent five seasons at East Tennessee State from 2018 to 2022. He played in 51 games and concluded his college career with 608 carries for 3,851 running yards (6.3 average) and 33 rushing touchdowns, as well as 91 receptions for 781 yards and three receiving scores. He has the school record for the most rushing yards in a single game, with 266 in a 2021 victory over Western Carolina.

Saylors was chosen first-team All-Southern Conference twice (2021, 2022), and second-team All-American by the AP FCS in 2021. He was also chosen to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team after the 2018 season.

Cota signed a reserve/future contract after the 2023 season.

The Washington Commanders’ proposed trade reunites Jayden Daniels with 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk – Caleb Skinner, Sports Illustrated.
Aiyuk’s contract troubles make for an interesting plot.

The Washington Commanders have sought to improve both sides of the ball this summer after a disappointing performance in 2023. They brought in veterans and blended them with a new crop of potential, but they may not be finished just yet, as they may search for aid outside of their own roster.

In recent months, San Francisco 49ers standout wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been pretty open about his next deal, with the hopes that an extension can be reached with the Bay Area franchise. That has yet to happen for Aiyuk, who is set to play on his fifth-year option on his rookie contract that expires this season.

Aiyuk does not appear to be satisfied with the path of his contract negotiations, which has caused him to publish a FaceTime call with Commanders QB Jayden Daniels on his TikTok account, stating that the 49ers “do not want me back.”

It is quite brazen to publish that if you are Aiyuk, unless it is a tactic to re-engage the team in discussions about obtaining the desired figure. Daniels and Aiyuk were former colleagues at Arizona State University before the former transferred to LSU and Aiyuk joined the league, which got everyone thinking: would a trade make sense to bring the unhappy star to the DMV?

If the Commanders wanted to add more firepower and theatrics to their attack, Aiyuk appears to fit the bill after posting back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

Even yet, teaming Aiyuk alongside Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson would only strengthen an attack that has the potential to break out this season.
