American media respond to Brenden Aaronson as Leeds United’s homecoming is brought into question.

Brenden Aaronson, Leeds United’s on-loan midfielder, has aroused speculation about a possible return following his recent performance for Union Berlin, according to American Soccer Now.

Leeds United loanee Aaronson impresses American media

The US-based football website said Aaronson was “the best player on the field” in Union Berlin’s 4-3 loss to VFL Bochum, and pondered if his improved form could lead to an Elland Road return next season.

Leeds leased the American international to Union following their relegation from the Premier League last season, but there is presently no agreement in place for the Bundesliga club to make the transfer permanent.

According to AmericanSoccerNow, Aaronson has been playing well after being left off the USMNT team. That improves his chances of making the Copa America.”

Then the question arose: “But he’ll be in club limbo soon.” Does Leeds want him back? Has he done enough for the Union to make an offer?

Will Brenden Aaronson return to Leeds United?

Leeds United saw a fire-sale, or rather a fire-loaning, of players in the summer of 2023, after meekly withdrawing from the Premier League.

Aaronson was one of several players who used loan provisions in their contracts, allowing himself, Robin Koch, Jack Harrison, Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen, Max Wober, and Marc Roca to depart on season-long loans rather than signing permanent deals away from Elland Road.

Those departures left Leeds with a lot of work to do in the transfer market and little financial compensation, casting doubt on whether any of the loanees would be warmly welcomed back by the club’s fans.

Aaronson, 23, was the most expensive of these players to temporarily go for no transfer fee, and his up-and-down form for Union Berlin has not increased Leeds’ chances of bringing in a huge windfall for the midfielder if he leaves permanently this summer.

It’s unclear whether Aaronson or any of his fellow loanees will ever return to the first-team system at Elland Road, but Leeds will be in a strong position if they can make an immediate Premier League return.

With the Championship play-offs approaching, their whole focus is on the present squad, and if the Whites win promotion, Leeds fans will be eager to remind Aaronson and Co. that they played no role in the club’s return to the top level.

In other Leeds news, the 49ers were “really big” on one former Premier League manager before to hiring Daniel Farke.
