Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer arrives at Nick Saban’s charity golf event.
Kalen DeBoer is taking every chance to learn from Nick Saban.
He admired the 72-year-old’s work ethic from afar, having witnessed him lead the University of Alabama football team to six national titles, nine Southeastern Conference championships, four Heisman Trophy winners, countless All-Americans, and a slew of other outstanding honors. Greg Byrne handpicked DeBoer to be Saban’s successor, and Saban believes the 49-year-old will lead the program well. DeBoer played in the Regions Pro-Am golf tournament alongside Saban, and he arrived in Birmingham (Ala.) on Tuesday for Saban’s annual Nick’s Kids charity golf tournament. He played golf alongside Tide superstars Mark Ingram and Tua Tagovailoa, as well as current players such as safety Malachi Moore. Nick Kelly of Tuscaloosa News captured video of DeBoer arriving.
He guided Washington from a 4-8 record in 2021 to a Pac-12 championship two years later.
DeBoer predicted that the Huskies would face Michigan in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in 2023.
Alabama supporters are quite interested to see what he does in his first year in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He is becoming acquainted with the state of Alabama by recruiting high school students and speaking at various events. DeBoer has a system that he is comfortable with, and the players have embraced his style since his arrival. He is learning from Saban, and Alabama supporters hope it works out well in the autumn.
