In a significant move, Auburn selects a 4-star linebacker over their main rival, Alabama.
Auburn and Alabama have one of the most intense in-state rivalries in collegiate athletics. When they’re not fighting on the football field, they’re vying for recruits. On Monday, the Tigers defeated the Crimson Tide for one of the top linebackers in the South.
Auburn And Alabama Are Dealing With New Coaches To Their Program
Hugh Freeze became Auburn’s head coach last season, and in his first season, he led the team to a 6-7 record, losing in the Music City Bowl to Maryland. Freeze has past SEC experience, having been the head coach at Ole Miss for five seasons from 2012 to 2016, and he understands what it takes to recruit in the South. Still, for Alabama’s new head coach Kalen DeBoer, this is his first time as a head coach in the south, and he’s done a wonderful job, but he allowed the Tigers sign a four-star linebacker.
The Tigers Land Tyler Lockhart
According to On3.com, four-star linebacker Tyler Lockhart has committed to Auburn, choosing the Tigers over Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, and Alabama.
Lockhart Is The Number 16 Linebacker In His Class
According to the On3.com Industry Rankings, Lockhart is the number 146 overall prospect and the 16th linebacker in the 2025 class.
The 6-foot-4 linebacker hails from Winona, Mississippi, and is ranked sixth in the state. Last season, the Mississippi native tallied 100 tackles, 28 of which were for a loss, and 11 sacks.
