Netflix is set to release a highly anticipated documentary about legendary Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, titled Lemmy: Born to Lose, Live to Win. The film will premiere globally on December 13, 2025, coinciding with what would have been Lemmy’s 80th birthday.
Directed by Greg Olliver, who also helmed the 2010 documentary Lemmy, this new film promises a deeper exploration into the life and legacy of the iconic musician. Olliver emphasizes the importance of staying true to Lemmy’s character and legacy, stating, “Everything you’ve heard about Lemmy is probably true… but behind that steely-eyed façade of rock ‘n’ roll was also a compelling, complicated and lion-hearted man who stayed the course and never gave up playing the music that made him happy.”
The documentary is produced by Andre Relis and Damon Lane, with executive producers including Motörhead’s manager Todd Singerman and Steffan Chirazi. It features interviews with Motörhead band members Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, as well as other individuals who played significant roles in Lemmy’s life, ensuring an authentic portrayal.
Fans can expect the documentary to provide a comprehensive look at Lemmy’s life, from his early years in post-war England to his time as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix and his involvement with the band Hawkwind. The film will also explore his rise to fame with Motörhead and his enduring influence on the rock genre. Through interviews, archival footage, and personal anecdotes, the documentary aims to capture the essence of a man who lived life on his own terms.
The release of the documentary coincides with Motörhead’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2025. The band has planned a series of events and releases throughout the year to honor their legacy and Lemmy’s contributions to music. These celebrations include special vinyl editions of their classic albums, a statue unveiling in Lemmy’s birthplace of Stoke-On-Trent, and a new HD version of their first-ever TV performance.
Lemmy: Born to Lose, Live to Win is expected to be available for streaming on Netflix in Nigeria. Subscribers can mark their calendars for December 13, 2025, to witness this in-depth tribute to one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most enduring legends.
