A supporter’s racist gesture at Coventry City midfielder Kasey Palmer resulted in a £12,500 punishment for Sheffield Wednesday.
The fan was banned by the Owls for life after the incident, which happened in the 94th minute of the Championship game on January 20.
Edward Rabjohn faced a five-year ban from football games after admitting to racially assaulting Palmer in May at Sheffield Magistrates Court.
Video evidence “clearly showed the spectator executing a monkey gesture,” according to a Football Association assessment.
Additionally, the club is required to put into practice an action plan for misbehavior pertaining to crowd control.
Sheffield Wednesday released a statement saying, “The culprit was discovered and subsequently brought to justice following a vigorous inquiry.”
Apart from the legal penalty, this individual faces a permanent ban from all Sheffield Wednesday games and club functions. After ten years, all EFL clubs will have the chance to participate in a rehabilitation program that adheres to the EDI Code of Practice.
“As a family-oriented football team that values the community, we once again denounce the heinous deeds committed by this person.
“As supporters of the team, both at home and away, we have a continuing obligation to make sure that they, and anyone posing as supporters, behave properly at all times.”
